🎨 Jaybird Hammock Farm Art Initiative
At Jaybird Hammock Farm, we believe art belongs in nature for the community to enjoy. We're inviting artists to create permanent or semi-permanent installations across our 8.5 acre farm, transforming the land into a living, breathing gallery that honors North Florida’s natural beauty, cultural history, and spiritual roots.
✨ What We’re Creating
Our vision is to grow an open-air art trail that blends storytelling, ecology, and community through murals, mosaics, sculpture, interactive installations, and nighttime displays. Artworks will live alongside pine forests, goat paths, meditation spaces, and pond ecosystems.
🤝 How It Works
We offer artists free use of the farm (valued at $400 per 2-hour session, based on farm events and site rental) in exchange for leading a public workshop and contributing an original art piece to the land. Artists keep 100% of workshop earnings and are supported with:
- Online event listing and booking
- Bathrooms and guest seating
- Farm venue setup and access
🎯 Fundraising Goals
As a small, family-run farm, we aren't able to fund materials or artist stipends yet — but we’re working to change that. We’re partnering with non-profit organizations to raise funds that will help:
- Purchase materials for large-scale and community-built installations
- Support stipends for artists who contribute their time and creative labor
- Develop lighting and weatherproofing for nighttime and seasonal works
If you're part of a non-profit, grant committee, or just want to help grow this grassroots dream, we’d love to hear from you.
🌿 Themes & Inspiration
We welcome art that reflects and celebrates the spirit of the farm. Some inspiration to draw from:
- Nature & Ecology: native Florida plants and animals; birds, butterflies, crows, trees, seasonal and moon cycles
- Wellness & Ritual: hammocks, breath, balance, yoga, sound, stillness
- Local History: stories from Nassauville, turpentine and pulpwood industry, southern heritage
- Ancestry & Land: heirloom tools, generational work, spiritual rootedness
- Myth & Folk Wisdom: Southern magic, animal spirits, old stories, sacred feminine
- Interactive Works: installations guests can move through, touch, or participate in
- Nighttime Displays: glowing, solar-powered, or moonlit art that comes alive after dark
All pieces should be designed to withstand the elements and complement the natural surroundings.
